Are Artificial Tears Not Enough Anymore?

  • A burning sensation or a grain of sand in the eyes.
  • Blurred vision that gets worse after hours in front of the screen.
  • Difficulty wearing contact lenses.
  • Impact of hormonal changes (menopause) on eye comfort.

Ignoring these signs only makes the situation worse. Chronic dry eyes can significantly affect your quality of life, work, and can lead to long-term damage to the surface of the eye.

Understanding the Origin of Your Discomfort

Dry eyes are often a symptom of a deeper cause. Precisely identifying its origin is the key to lasting relief.

Your discomfort may be directly related to the health of your eyelids, such as a blepharitis Or a meibomian gland dysfunction (DGM). Inflammatory conditions like ocular rosacea or structural changes such as the Conjunctivochalasis are also common causes that we are evaluating.

Sometimes drought is a factor that is linked to a larger situation. This is the case for autoimmune diseases such as Sjogren's syndrome, or following a refractive surgery (LASIK). It can also be a side effect of medications, a well-known phenomenon in post-Accutane dryness.

At the CARE clinic in Sainte-Thérèse, our first step is always a comprehensive diagnosis to understand your unique situation.

FAQ
I have already tried everything without success. How is the CARE Clinic different?

Our difference lies in our advanced diagnosis and our expertise (especially in complex cases such as neuropathic pain). Instead of simply managing symptoms with generic approaches, we identify the Exact cause of your dryness (e.g. chronic inflammation, blocked glands, Demodex, cosmetic factors). It is this precision that allows us to develop a targeted and much more effective treatment for lasting relief.

Is dry eye serious? What are the risks?

Yes, if it is not treated. Beyond the significant discomfort that affects the quality of life (work, reading), chronic dry eyes can damage the cornea (the surface of the eye), increase the risk of infections and, in severe cases, affect vision in the long term. Early care is essential to protect your eyes.

Is a report sent to my optometrist or attending physician?

Yes. We believe in a collaborative approach. After your evaluation or treatment, a complete clinical report is sent to your referring professional in order to ensure optimal continuity of care.

Are your services covered by the RAMQ?

No, our services are not covered by the RAMQ because we are a private clinic. However, we are committed to offering specialized and personalized care that complements the services covered by the RAMQ. We invite you to contact us to discuss treatment options and payment terms in order to find a solution that fits your needs.

I use eye drops, but that's not enough. Why?

Artificial drops often offer temporary relief because they don't treat the underlying cause of dry eyes. Dry eye is a progressive condition. Over time, inflammation increases or glands atrophy, and a more targeted approach becomes necessary to break the disease cycle.

Is dry eye assessment painful?

No All of our diagnostic tests are non-invasive, fast, and comfortable. We use advanced imaging technologies and tear analyses that cause no pain. Your well-being is our top priority throughout the process.

How long does the assessment appointment last?

Allow approximately 90 minutes for a full assessment. This time allows us to perform all the necessary tests without haste, and to discuss your results and your personalized treatment plan in detail.

Does my private insurance cover your services?

Most private insurance does not cover specialized dry eye services. However, you can attempt to submit your bill to see if it is covered. We recommend that you check with your insurance provider for specific information. In addition, our services are tax deductible, which can offer you a tax advantage.

What are the most common dry eye symptoms?

Symptoms vary but frequently include:

  • A burning, tingling, or grain of sand in the eyes.
  • Red and irritated eyes.
  • Blurred vision that fluctuates, especially in front of screens.
  • Rapid eye fatigue.
  • Increased sensitivity to light.
  • Paradoxically, excessive tearing (the eye tries to compensate for irritation).
What does advanced assessment at CARE consist of?

Our assessment is designed to accurately map your condition. It includes:

  • A detailed analysis of your symptoms and your lifestyle (screens, cosmetics).
  • Advanced tests to measure the quality, quantity and stability of your tears.
  • High-definition imaging of the meibomian glands (Meibography) to verify their structure.
  • A microscopic examination of the ocular surface, eyelids, and the presence of inflammation.
