More than just a deposit: The impact of Xanthelasma on your confidence and your health

Xanthelasma (those yellowish patches around the eyes) can profoundly affect your appearance and well-being.

The Aesthetic Impact:

  • It makes you look constantly tired or older than you are.
  • It is difficult, if not impossible, to completely cover with makeup.
  • It can affect your confidence during social or professional interactions.

Health Concern:

These deposits are made up of cholesterol. In about 50% of cases, Xanthelasma is a visible sign of a lipid imbalance (high cholesterol or triglycerides) that can affect your overall health.

In addition, these deposits never disappear by themselves and tend to grow slowly over time.

State-of-the-art treatments adapted to your situation

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for Xanthelasma. Our doctors are proficient in all medical techniques and will determine the safest and most effective approach for you during the consultation.

  • Laser treatments (CO₂/Er:YAG):
    • Ideal for: Superficial to moderate lesions.
    • Benefit: Extreme precision that allows deposits to be sprayed layer by layer, minimizing scars and offering rapid healing.
  • Plasma technology (e.g. JETT Plasma):
    • Ideal for: Superficial to moderate lesions, non-surgical approach.
    • Benefit: Treatment without a scalpel. Uses plasma energy to vaporize (the technical term is “sublimate”) deposits very precisely, without incisions or sutures. Reduces the risk of scarring and allows for controlled healing.
  • Medical Chemical Peel (TCA):
    • Ideal for: Very superficial and fine lesions.
    • Benefit: A non-invasive and rapid technique that is effective in chemically “dissolving” fine deposits.
  • Precision Surgical Excision:
    • Ideal for: Large or deep lesions.
    • Benefit: Complete elimination in a single session, offering the lowest risk of recurrence. Performed by our expert doctors to ensure a minimal and discreet scar, often hidden in the natural creases of the eyelid.

FAQ
Is it painful?

Your comfort is our priority. All procedures (laser, advanced peeling, or excision) are performed under local anesthesia (anesthetic cream or light injection) to ensure that the treatment is comfortable.

Does the treatment leave scars?

Our main objective is an optimal aesthetic result. Modern techniques, such as laser, greatly minimize scarring. If surgical excision is required, it is performed with extreme precision so that the scar is minimal and often hidden in the natural creases of the eyelid.

Who will carry out my treatment?

Your evaluation and diagnosis is always done by a doctor. The treatment will be carried out either by the doctor or by an experienced clinical nurse, according to the plan established by the doctor.

How much does it cost? Is it covered by insurance?

Xanthelasma is generally considered to be an aesthetic condition and is therefore often not covered by the RAMQ or most private insurances. The cost depends on the size of the lesions and the technique chosen. A precise estimate will be given to you during your consultation.

Can Xanthelasma come back?

The risk of recurrence is real, especially if the underlying cause (such as high cholesterol) is not controlled. That's why our comprehensive approach includes a health check and recommendations to minimize this risk in the long term. Surgical excision has the lowest recurrence rate.
